Wellbeing

Here at Appleton Primary the well-being and mental health of our children, staff and parents is extremely important. It is our mission to raise the profile of well-being and mental health and focus on how we can look after our mental health as well as our physical health. Our intention is to ensure that everyone involved within our school feels well supported. We believe that good pastoral support focuses on nurturing the individual needs of each child.

Pastoral care underpins personal development and we know from experience that with outstanding pastoral care, students feel they belong and their self-esteem is able to flourish because they feel valued and cared for. We pursue this aim using both universal, whole school approaches and specialised, targeted approaches aimed at vulnerable students.

Appleton School Vision

At Appleton Primary School we commit to making it our mission to promote resilience and positive wellbeing for all our pupils and staff. We understand wellbeing as state of being comfortable, safe, healthy and happy. We will drive the message forward, to ensure that mental health is “everyone’s business” across the whole school community. We will strive to create an environment that has a whole school approach, in providing excellent mental health support, understanding and intervention.

Headstart Pledge

“Enable children and young people to have positive mental health and well-being, thrive in ‘their communities’ and to ‘bounce back’ from life’s challenges”.

Optimus Wellbeing Award

As part of our ongoing commitment to the wellbeing of our school community, our school has embraced the opportunity to work towards achieving an award called the Wellbeing Award for Schools.

It is an award that recognises and celebrates the school’s efforts of promoting and protecting the positive wellbeing of all associated with our school. It is a journey that will allow us to reflect on the positive contributions that we already make, but will also highlight additional opportunities for change and progression
